Brynjar Sigurðarson and Veronika Sedlmair were presented with the Swarovski Designers of the Future Award at Design Miami/ Basel in 2016. Crystal Blind, the designers’ commission for Design Miami/, is a series of window blinds created from crystal slats with an iridescent shine as they reflect and refract daylight. Inspired by this series, the designers collaborated with Atelier Swarovski to create a chic collection of crystal paperweights called Currents.
During the talk, the two shared insights and stories about their creative process, offering a new perspective on their work. Characterized by their freedom, openness and connection with nature, the duo’s designs take inspiration from the culture and landscape of Brynjar’s native Iceland.
Guests at the Designer Talk were also able to browse the latest collections from Atelier Swarovski Home, which push the boundaries of crystal creativity through collaborations with the world’s leading design talent.
This year marks the eighth time that Swarovski has partnered with Vienna Design Week, the largest curated design festival in Europe. Supporting emerging and established designers is key to Swarovski’s vision – as Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board states: “It is inspiring to see how these talented designers are constantly reinterpreting crystal in their creations. Like Swarovski, Vienna Design Week is dedicated to promoting innovative designers and increasing their visibility. We are delighted to continue this long-standing partnership”.
