Simply the best
Tina – The Tina Turner Musical illuminated London’s West End with its world premiere on April 17th, dazzling with more than 260,000 Swarovski crystals. Tina Turner, who was an associate on the production, attended the glamorous opening night alongside her husband Erwin Bach and stars of the entertainment world, including Rod Stewart and Graham Norton.
Based on the life of the incomparable rock ‘n’ roll legend, the musical tells the inspiring journey of a woman who dared to defy the boundaries of her era, gender and race. BAFTA-nominated costume designer Mark Thompson incorporated thousands of crystals into his brilliantly crafted designs, bringing to life some of the most extraordinary moments of Tina Turner’s career.
One such moment is the exhilarating finale, when the theatre transforms into a spectacular rock concert. For this scene, Thompson recreated the famous fringed crystal mini-dress Turner wore for her Steamy Windows single cover shoot, shot by Herb Ritts.
Turner often chose Swarovski crystal costumes for maximum impact in her performances, making Swarovski the perfect partner to help recreate her story on stage. She was the first music artist to wear a costume created entirely from Swarovski Crystal Mesh when she appeared in a Gianni Versace-designed crystal slip dress during her 1996 Wildest Dreams tour.
