Upwards of 2.5 million Swarovski crystals were seen on 350 costume pieces created specifically for the tour. Highlights from Madonna’s wardrobe include designer Fausto Puglisi’s unforgettable purple velvet cape adorned with Swarovski crystal shining amidst black silk satin. Emblazoned across the back of the cape, a giant “M” flowed into swirling, vine-like designs running the full length of the costume’s lengthy train. Jeremy Scott for Moschino’s Swarovski-crystal-embellished flapper costume featured black crystal-fringed opera gloves and a skirt of soaring crystal strands during the performance of fan favorite “Material Girl."
Swarovski crystal was seen on more than just Madonna’s costumes, decorating the singer’s backup dancers and glittering from the show’s ornate set designs. “We need Swarovski crystals on a Madonna tour like we need her guitars. It is part of what the show is about, part of this magical illusion that we create. We have crystals in every form that you can imagine. We are depending on Swarovski to tell our story and to reach every single set of eyes in that huge stadium,” says Arianne Phillips.
The Rebel Heart Tour includes stops in 20 North American cities and 16 cities in the UK and Europe by the end of 2015. The tour is scheduled to continue in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Asia into March 2016.
