designers in discussion
Style influencers, design students, and the local fashion community gathered in the Parsons School of Fashion auditorium for a compelling discussion held in celebration of this year’s CFDA Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent nominees. Nominees Laura Vassar Brock and Kristopher Brock of Brock Collection, Gabriela Hearst, Sander Lak of Sies Marjan, and Fernando Garcia of Monse were in attendance along with the Swarovski Award for Positive Change honoree Kenneth Cole, acting as moderator.
As one of the leading institutions for art and design education in the world, Parsons School of Design was the opportune venue to discuss the panelists’ achievements in the industry. Prompted by engaging stories from fashion veteran Kenneth Cole’s professional journey, the panelists’ commentated on their backgrounds, paths to success, and what the significance of this nomination means not only for them personally, but for the future of their brand. Following the conversation was a Q&A from the audience which incited further dialogue concerning how the designers incorporate philanthropy and social responsibility into their brands.
Now in its 16th consecutive year, Swarovski continues its partnership with the CFDA through the unified Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent which applies to womenswear, menswear and accessory design, as well as the Swarovski Award for Positive Change which will honor Kenneth Cole, an individual in the U.S. fashion industry who has made a positive impact on American communities and has improved the welfare of others. Additionally, Swarovski has long been involved with Parsons School of Design, currently sponsoring a crystal application room in its facilities, a curriculum for the MFA program, and the scholarship of a selected student of the MFA program.
The 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place on Monday, June 5th in New York City.
