The doll-like doe-eyed woman who usually walks the runway at Vivetta has taken a hiatus for fall 2018. In her place, a revved-up version of Vivetta Ponti’s signature playful woman. She’s seductive, powerful – a siren influenced by larger-than-life personalities from the excess era.
The designer commented: “I took the inspiration from Rome in the 80s, and women like Carol Alt and Marina Ripa di Meana, with the sunglasses and scarves.”
To play up these commanding looks, thigh-high boots were paired with a strappy dress or oversized blazer in a Swarovski crystal transfer snake print. Overall, 320,000 shimmering Swarovski crystals of logos and hand and eye motifs stretched across the collection on classic ‘80s shapes featuring velour, lace and ruching.
Ponti explained backstage: “We did a sort of rainbow shade in the crystals, as well as using them for the gloves and hands, which are the leitmotif of the collection. We also used the crystal eyes buttons from Swarovski to add something shining to the shoes, and used the stones to create a bright Vivetta logo.”
Alberto Zambelli is adored by the elegant and sophisticated woman and is known for working with unusual materials, often conceived by the designer in collaboration with experimental Italian textile creators. Fall 2018 was no different.
“The inspiration of the collection is the ‘embrace’, meant as an authentic and daily gesture, which I expressed through natural fabrics which brush and embrace the body. Swarovski crystals are used to highlight the print motif as well as the aerographic technique used for the print.” Alberto Zambelli shared.
Draping and asymmetry were big throughout the collection, appearing on a featured range of soft, flowing textiles as well as heavier, structural fabrics. Colors varied between burgundy, soft pastels and white with 32,000 Swarovski crystals on mostly all-black and olive-green ensembles arranged to portray hugging couples and abstract shapes. To round things out, an oversized maxi scarf embellished with White Opal crystals became the show’s stand-out accessory.
Alberto Zambelli commented: “Swarovski really enhances my collection as it perfectly frames and matches my minimalist style, offering a touch of femininity and contemporaneity.”
