Empowered by showcasing her true heritage, Katrantzou described this collection as a personal love letter to her home country and shared: “Swarovski is one of our long-lasting partners and I am incredibly grateful to have Nadja Swarovski and the team next to me in this effort to highlight the importance of ELPIDA’s work and the cultural significance of my Greek heritage.”
Against the majestic backdrop of the ancient Greek Temple of Poseidon, which holds its place as one of the most important sanctuaries in the region, the show was nothing less than breathtaking. The collection resonated stunning brights, intricate embroidery and dramatic silhouettes as well as 250,000 Swarovski crystals that embellished couture gowns and glittered under the sun’s glow. During the event, Greek composer and Academy Award-winner Vangelis curated a soundtrack to match the avant-garde aesthetic.
Swarovski’s ongoing partnership with Mary Katrantzou began in 2008 with her ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week. Working with Swarovski has encouraged the London-based designer to push creative boundaries, expressing her signature style of color, pattern and complexity through crystals. A highlight of this collaboration is Katrantzou’s iconic perfume bottle dresses reimagined in Swarovski Crystal Mesh for her 10th anniversary show for SS19.
Swarovski continues to create a sparking world by collaborating with emerging and established designers to push boundaries. Katrantzou’s SS20 show is a prime example of why Swarovski champions visionary design talent to illuminate the path for innovation and creativity.
