Two stand-out activewear tees were embellished with over 200,000 Swarovski Hot-Fix crystals in shades of bright red and icy clear. The embellishments were arranged into flashing logos that complemented the collection’s moody ambiance inspired by the passion, desire and dark romance that fashion in film can evoke.
Swarovski chatted with the designer for more info on these influences.
What were your inspirations/trends for this season?
From the beginning, I’ve thought about this collection like a movie. Since I was a child, I’ve always been captivated by fashion in films. I grew up in the 80s, when fashion in films was so powerful. I wanted to capture that power, and to tell a story that was like an update of Alice In Wonderland set on the streets of Milan, after dark. I wanted everything to be very cinematic and full of character. Night comes to day, passion and desire is worn on your sleeve, tailoring has power. There is a dark romance to the mood, like the characters cannot help falling in and out of love.
How have you used crystal in the collection?
We used crystals on wow-effect activewear pieces, heart-shaped crystals embellish distressed knitwear, sweatshirts, sweatpants and t-shirts with the iconic seasonal ‘FLASH HEART’ graphic.
How many crystal looks and crystal accessories are part of the show?
2 crystal looks – two activewear tops, both in black techno jersey, embellished with crystal-colored and red applications.
What is it about Swarovski crystals that helps you achieve your vision?
Working with Swarovski means working with a world authority in fashion and having the chance to work with the most outstanding materials. I think Swarovski crystals really elevated the looks and helped build a collection that translates luxury elements into a language that's very individual, very contemporary, completely MSGM.
If you had to use one word to describe this collection, what would it be?
We decided to call it SPEZZACUORI, which is Italian for Heartbreaker.
