Global Fashion Director Carine Roitfeld brought the glossy pages of Harper’s Bazaar to life at the fourth annual ‘ICONS’ party in New York City on August 8th with Swarovski shine. As a first-time partner, Swarovski lent nearly a quarter million crystals to the event which hosted some of industry’s most notable personalities, creating unique interactive moments amid sparkling décor throughout.
The 2017 September issue honorees include Courtney Love, Dionne Warwick, Grimes, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Miranda Lambert, Travis Scott, Natasha Poly, Joan Smalls, Kelly Rohrbach, Candice Swanepoel, and Karlie Kloss, with U.S. cover stars The Weeknd, Adriana Lima and Irina Shayk. Brigitte Lacombe photographed the eclectic 18-page portfolio, which went on to appear in the September issues of all 32 international editions of Harper’s Bazaar.
“It was a wonderful experience – very fast-paced, open, collaborative, full of laughter and surprises,” says Lacombe, on the process of capturing the ICONS portfolio. “All [ICONS] rose to the occasion to be part of the big picture.”
The legendary Plaza Hotel hosted the celeb-packed event, befittingly decorated with Swarovski-crystalized guitars hanging on a larger than life photo-wall. Upon entering through the doors of the opulent Grand Ballroom, guests were greeted by immersive 3D holographic videos showcasing archive pieces from various Atelier Swarovski collections in celebration of the brand’s 10th anniversary. Inside, gilded, luxurious décor set the scene for a bright night where additional crystals shimmered in the ICONS Gallery on the cover and opening page prints, on the DJ’s headphones, and hanging on strands as a backdrop for the custom Instagram wall. VIPs including ICON Courtney Love were dressed in jewelry by Atelier Swarovski.
The multi-faceted evening culminated in a live performance by ICON and worldwide pop star The Weeknd, closing out the festivities on a literal high note.
“From rock to hip hop, classic to country, and electric to soul, this unique group of ICONS is about diversity, that is what I love,” Roitfeld said. “Celebrating a universal language of music and fashion is important to the world today.”
