On the eve of the CAFAs, designers got hands-on with ready-made crystal patterns and loose crystals at a Swarovski-hosted crystal application workshop. Later that evening, CAFA joined Swarovski at Toronto’s Soho House to host an intimate dinner in honor of the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent nominees. In attendance were Fashion category nominees Andrew Coimbra, Angelene, Markoo, WRKDEPT and ZOFF, along with Accessory category designers Par Ici by Alynne Lavigne, JY Gao, Laurie Fleming, Poppy Barley and Sofia Zakia.
The awards were presented the following day at the glamorous CAFA gala to a packed house. The Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Fashion went to Mona Koochek and Tania Martins of Markoo for their unique textile use and simplistic designs. Jewelry designer Sofia Zakia won The Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Accessories, recognizing the creativity and craftsmanship behind her dreamy celestial designs. A Swarovski crystal podium, Alcantara bracelets and joblots were also used at each table to decorate the space.
Executive Board Member Nadja Swarovski was also honored with the Global Fashion Business Leader Award, acknowledging her significant contribution to the global fashion industry. Nadja Swarovski is attributed with Swarovski’s successful repositioning within the fashion industry as a leading crystal purveyor for major fashion brands. Nadja commented: “It is a true honour to be recognized by CAFA and the Canadian fashion industry as this year’s Global Fashion Business Leader. Actress Laura Vandervoort also carried an Atelier Swarovski clutch.
