KILLER QUEEN
Over 56,000 Swarovski crystals add a fiery brilliance to the new Twentieth Century Fox and Regency Enterprises film Bohemian Rhapsody, embellishing ensembles for iconic rock band, Queen.
Swarovski partnered with costume designer Julian Day to create stage-ready looks for the cast in this high-voltage production.
Dazzling details transformed the actors into their legendary counterparts, capturing the spirit and style of each musician. Day commented, “Queen are rock royalty, and their performances were extraordinary and electrifying, so my challenge was to help recreate that magic on screen.”
Drama was key for frontman Freddie Mercury (played by Rami Malek), so Day dressed his character in a black t-shirt with sun rays; a colorful velvet jacket; a bare-chested wrap top and a regal crystallized crown.
Guitarist Brian May (Gwilym Lee) took to the stage in a waistcoat with a crystal spider web, and drummer Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy) rocked a crystal-covered white shirt.
As part of the release revelry, Swarovski embellished a Bohemian Rhapsody movie poster with more than 14,000 crystals to hang among photography, prints, footage and costumes from the film in a pop-up shop and exhibition on London's famous Carnaby Street.
Following the premiere, the exclusive crystallized poster will be sold in aid of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity organization that fights HIV/AIDS worldwide, set up by Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor in memory of their iconic bandmate.
