LUSTRE GABRIEL CHANDELIER
A Resplendent Versailles
Brothers and industrial-design duo Roman and Erwan Bouroullec have a signature style that marries simplicity and functionality. In 2013, the team completed a chandelier in partnership with Swarovksi befitting a grand staircase at the Palace of Versailles.

Standing 12 meters high and suspended above the Gabriel staircase, the stunning Lustre Gabriel chandelier was handpicked by the palace to be the first contemporary piece to be installed in the historic landmark.
The choice to use crystal establishes a strong link between the past—where majestic chandeliers graced ceremonial rooms—and the present. The piece features over 800 Swarovski pieces suspended in loops from the ceiling like a luminous transparent chain. It comprises three interlacing strands, each made of hundreds of Swarovski crystals illuminated by luminous LED light-sources which diffuse a gentle, continuous and encircling light.
This project forms part of Swarovski’s major program of cultural support and ongoing patronage of art and design, and this work will enrich these historic surroundings whilst preserving the unique nature of the space.
