AW 2011 COLLECTION
“Expect a collection inspired by the powerful performances of Queen, the theatrical voltage of Kiss, mixed with the willowy allure of Carla Bruni. I am very much into the development of crystal pieces that take a garment to a new level, adding texture and gloss, mixing traditional labor yet the outcome is fresh and uniquely modern. The crystals not only bring a three dimensional element to my designs but they also allow me to expands upon my desire to learn and support traditional hand craftsmanship values.” – Juan Carlos Obando
ss 2011 collection
Fit for a sci-fi heroine, Juan Carlos Obando’s spring summer 2011 collection saw a bevy of futuristic cut-out dresses fashioned with a stunning layer of Swarovski elements representing stars and planets.
“Working with Swarovski Crystals became a fundamental part of the exercise as many of the Hubble images focused on the birth and death of stars and planets, as we started to hand dye the fabrics to represent some of this images, it was clear that by adding a crystal layer to the textile design, the overall effect will be as unique and complex as the space images themselves.” – Juan Carlos Obando
