Alexander Lewis

Alexander Lewis was born in Chicago, schooled in England, and attended university in L.A. As a Brazil native and global citizen, Lewis finds beauty in culture clash and his designs reflect the delicious tension of a distinct, new feminine – at home in clothing that reflects the tailored excellence of London, and fluent in the international language; fashion.

Working as the assistant to VOGUE contributing editor Andre Leon Talley, Lewis planted himself firmly at the forefront of high fashion. He then settled in London where he honed his tailoring craft at Norton & Sons and E. Tautz on Savile Row. After two years as a pattern cutter in the bespoke house, Lewis assumed the role of Head of Brand at E. Tautz before leaving in late 2011 to found his eponymous label. His experiences at the top of fashion’s totems lent him credibility and expertise – and yet his time working as a personal shopper at Harrods lent Lewis the creative perspective that colors his perspective and approach to his collections – that of situational dressing, where clients asked for a wardrobe for a specific destination, versus a season.

His debut collection for Resort 2013 made no apologies for its strong, and potent entry – razor sharp tailoring was paired with a warm, fierce insouciance all Lewis’ own. The collection also cemented Lewis’ status as an innovative textile designer, with luxe knits and fabrics developed completely in-house. Lewis’s take on nonchalant elegance fused with a playful modernity makes for collections that have as much storytelling and spirit as they do simple wearability.
