Transporting us into a world of fantastical whimsy, designer Vivetta debuted a charming fairytale-inspired Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Crystallized embroideries mixed with favorite scenes and characters from Cinderella and The Magic Flute, with fabrics taking notes from French tapestries, complete with oriental touches and broderie anglais. “I made flowers with faces and ships and rainbows, printed and embellished with colorful crystals,” shared Vivetta post-show. “The fairy-tales figures in silhouettes on silk are my reimagining of the stop-motion films made by Lotte Reininger.”
Inspired by the early 20th century school uniforms and holiday gear worn in Austria, designer Arthur Arbesser’s Spring/Summer collection saw a new, contemporary twist on Swarovski crystal. Unexpected shimmer added to the show’s androgynous silhouettes and acidic neon color tones. Floral lace saw a camouflage-print makeover, and silk gingham a futuristic shine with heat-transfer crystal fabric. Swarovski stones, and arrows — a motif that runs throughout the collection — were highlighted in bold red crystal rock. “I’m a simple guy,” noted Arbesser. “I like color and androgynous looks, so crystal isn’t the most obvious material for me, but I love the contrast that it brings to my work.”
